McGuireWoods LLP is looking for an experienced Reference Librarian.
The core responsibilities are as follows:
*Performs complex legal and non-legal research and reference services for clients, lawyers and staff for assigned offices.
*Maintains current knowledge and proficiency in the use of legal and non-legal computer information retrieval systems.
*Exercises independent judgment and discretion in the selection of information sources, research methods and document delivery options when responding to reference and research questions.
*Participates in library training programs as requested.
*Composes/submits items for library and firm newsletters, databases, training material and other publications
Requirements: The Position requires a Master's Degree in Library and Information Services from an ALA accredited program and 3 to 5 years of related experience as a professional law librarian or comparable experience. Must have knowledge of legal bibliography, legal research and computer assisted legal research. Advanced knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis, and MS Suite preferred.

Remembering Barbara N. Cumming

It is with deep regret that we note the passing of long-time VALL member and respected colleague, Barbara N. Cumming, on June 5, 2010, at the age of 66.
Barbara was a familiar face at VALL and AALL annual meetings. She was always ready to lend a hand with committee work or to help out a colleague. Always impeccably dressed and unfailingly gracious, Barbara's presence in VALL will be missed.

Technical Services/Digital Resources Librarian: University of Richmond Law Library
Job Summary:
The Technical Services/Digital Resources Librarian provides expertise and effective management for the Law Library's digital resources. This includes assuring that linking and interoperability function properly to provide reliable service to the students, faculty, and staff who depend upon these resources. This individual also serves as the Law Library integrated library systems administrator.
Qualifications: Knowledge of digital resources and vendors of information services.Ability to interpret and apply cataloging rules and policies.Working knowledge of integrated library systems.Familiarity with standard library cataloging tools and procedures.Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a commitment to customer service.Ability to apply a high level of attention to detail and to understand the larger context and implications of this position's work.Strong organizational and time management skills.Ability to work under time constraints and to meet regularly recurring deadlines on multiple, concurrent projects and to develop concepts from idea to implementation.Teaching ability for either one-on-one instruction or small group instruction.Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.Excellent oral and written skills are required
